Experience timeless travel on this epic 3 day, 2 night journey between two great cities, traversing half way across the bronzed lands of the continent in comfort and style. Soak up the tremendous beauty of The Nullarbor and the rolling slideshow of arid desert plains, rugged mountains and world-renowned wine regions, with awe-inspiring off train experiences along the way.
Be immersed in the spectacular interior landscape of Australia, by which there's no better way than the romance of rail.
Depart Perth mid-morning and begin your journey from the Indian Ocean across the desert. After settling in to your cabin, enjoy your all-inclusive lunch on board and take in the spectacular scenery of the Avon Valley. The green rolling hills begin to give way to the harsher, but every bit as beautiful, desert plains. After lunch, spend the afternoon exploring the carriages and getting to know your fellow travellers. This evening, you will indulge in a 3 course dinner in the dining carriage before arriving late evening in Kalgoorlie, Australia's largest outback city. Here you'll enjoy a short play at Hannan's North Tourist Mine. Paddy Hannan's discovery in 1893 instigated one of the biggest gold rushes in Australian History, and this play tells the story of its beginnings and tales of The Golden Mile. After the performance, you will visit the Super Pit - the world's largest single open-cut mine. For a special photo opportunity, climb up on to one of the giant dump trucks! Return to the Indian Pacific for your journey onwards through the night.
Please Note: This is a late evening experience, commencing at 9pm and arriving back to the Indian Pacific at approximately 12am.
Awake this morning to sunrise over the breathtaking expanse of the Nullarbor Plain - the world's longest straight stretch of straight railway track. Enjoy morning refreshments at Rawlinna, which borders the largest sheep station in the southern hemisphere, home to up to 80,000 sheep over 2.5 million acres. Further along the track the ghost town of Cook awaits. Once a Nullarbor railway community important in the establishment of Australia's interior landscape, today the town of Cook is home to lonely buildings and a population you can count on one hand. Step off the train and wander the remote town for an eerily quiet and unique glimpse of pioneering Australia. Continue your journey on board and enjoy another mouth-watering dinner before spending the remainder of the evening at your leisure, socialising in the lounge or embracing some quiet time in your cabin.
Wake up early this morning as you travel past the many outback lakes near the remote towns of Tarcoola and Pimba, and watch as the landscape changes as you pass through the small coastal city of Port Augusta. Farewell the sunburnt outback as the sun rises and welcome the farming plains and rolling countryside before arriving in the beautiful city of Adelaide at 07:45. This morning you will be served a light snack of fruits and pastries. Alighting at the Adelaide Parklands Terminal located 3km from the city centre, it is a short taxi ride to the heart of the Festival State.
Adelaide is South Australia’s cosmopolitan coastal capital. Its ring of parkland on the River Torrens is home to acclaimed museums such as the Art Gallery of South Australia, displaying expansive collections of Indigenous art, and the South Australian Museum, devoted to natural history. The world renowned Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale wine regions are within driving distance, along with stunning beaches, national parks and riverland, making Adelaide an ideal base to experience South Australia's beauty.
