What Happens If I Have to Cancel My Booked Tour?

Madeline Ross·09 Jun 2026

You can cancel your tour at any time for any reason. However, cancellation fees may apply depending on how far in advance you cancel and whether third-party suppliers such as accommodation providers, car rental companies or tour operators have their own cancellation charges. All cancellations must be submitted in writing.

How Do I Cancel My Tour?

If you need to cancel your tour, simply contact your Inside Australia Travel specialist as soon as possible and provide your cancellation request in writing. The earlier you let the team know, the more options may be available to minimise cancellation costs.

Inside Australia Travel understands that plans can change unexpectedly, which is why the team will work with you to explain any applicable fees and help you understand your options. If you're unsure whether cancelling is your best option, you may also wish to discuss changing your travel dates instead. See I Need to Change the Date of My Tour. Is This Possible?.

What Cancellation Fees Apply?

Cancellation fees vary depending on how close you are to your tour commencement date.

According to Inside Australia Travel's Terms & Conditions:

  • The initial deposit is non-refundable once your tour arrangements have been confirmed.
  • Additional cancellation fees may apply from accommodation providers, rental car companies and activity operators.
  • Higher cancellation fees generally apply the closer you are to your departure date.

Current cancellation terms include:

Time Before Departure Cancellation Fee*
After confirmation Deposit is non-refundable
70–21 days before departure 55% of total reservation value
20–8 days before departure 70% of total reservation value
7 days or less before departure 100% of total reservation value

*Additional supplier cancellation fees may also apply. Always refer to the latest Terms & Conditions provided with your booking.

Should I Take Out Travel Insurance?

Yes. Inside Australia Travel strongly recommends purchasing comprehensive travel insurance when booking your holiday. Travel insurance may provide cover for unexpected circumstances that force you to cancel or amend your trip, depending on your policy and reason for cancellation.

Travel insurance can also provide protection for issues such as medical emergencies, travel disruptions and lost luggage, helping to give you greater peace of mind before and during your holiday.

Can I Change My Booking Instead of Cancelling?

In many cases, changing your travel dates may be possible and can be a better alternative to cancelling altogether.

However, availability, accommodation choices and pricing may change, particularly if your departure date is close. The earlier you contact your travel specialist, the more likely it is that suitable alternatives can be arranged.

If you're considering a change rather than a cancellation, speak with your travel specialist as soon as possible to discuss the available options.
