Rye

The town of Rye, runs parallel to the coast of Port Philip and offers family-friendly beaches, ideal for swimming, boating and kite surfing. Snorkellers also frequent the area with a 200-metre, self guided underwater trail at the Rye Pier called Octopus's Garden, where you can expect to see schooling fish, crabs, octopus, seahorses and rays. An event which attracts tourists from afar is the annual giant spider crab mass migration which occurs at Rye Pier over a period of around 3 days during late May to June. As a salute to the region's historical lime extraction past, a Lime Burner Kiln sits as the base of the White Cliffs, a kilometre west of the Rye Jetty.
