Green Island

One of the most popular destinations on the Great Barrier Reef, Green Island is a 6000 year old coral cay located 27 kilometres offshore from Cairns. The ferry trip over takes only 45 minutes, making it the perfect place to explore for a few hours, a full day, or a few nights. If you're fond of getting in the water, Green Island has many opportunities for snorkelling, swimming and diving. Or, if you prefer to keep your feet dry, hop on a glass bottom boat to view the stunning reef below. Inland, you can weave your way through the island forest on the 1.3 kilometre Green Island Boardwalk and a self-guided eco walk that has been voted one of the top bushwalks in Queensland. These mini treks give you the opportunity to spot some of the large number of forest and marine birds that call the island home. If laying back and relaxing in the sun and sand is more your vibe, you can even hire towels and an umbrella from the beach hire hut with an ice-cool drink in hand.
