Central Tilba

The beautifully restored heritage towns of Central Tilba and smaller Tilba Tilba give a chance to step back in time. Built during the gold rush of the 1890's, these twin timber towns are nestled at the base of Gulaga (Mt Dromedary), locally known as 'Mother Mountain'. Central Tilba is a unique village in an area of huge cultural significance. The first nations Yuin people have been in this area for over 20,00 years.
The once active volcano of Gulaga is seen as a symbol of motherhood. It is permitted by the traditional owners to climb, though it is a steep half day journey -suggested only for the very fit. Alternatively take the quick & easy 5 minute walk to the Water Tower Lookout for panoramic views of the town.

Head to the local cheese factory or winery and try some tasty produce, visit the quirky boutique stores on the main street or wander the ever blooming Foxglove Gardens.
