Twelve Apostles Signature Walk

This morning begins with a 30-minute drive to the most challenging yet rewarding day of the trail. Known as "the wild side," this section of the Great Ocean Walk showcases some of the most visually stunning and remote landscapes. The journey starts on a winding path from Milanesia Track, descending through lush forest to the serene Milanesia Beach. After a gentle stroll along the sand, the trail turns upward for a brief but steep climb, setting the tone for the day ahead. The path weaves through gullies and ascends gradually, offering sweeping views back over Milanesia Beach. Rough tree ferns and stands of ancient Eucalypts line the trail, leading to a challenging ascent of 138 steps. Continuing westward, a steady climb emerges from the forest into the Ryans Den campsite, an ideal spot to pause and soak in breathtaking coastal views stretching to Cape Volney and Cape Otway. The trail from Ryans Den undulates along the coastline, revealing dramatic vistas with every turn. Traversing the ridge behind Cape Volney offers awe-inspiring panoramas of the rugged coastline. The day concludes at a seated lookout, just meters from the trail’s end, with a stunning final perspective of this unforgettable wilderness experience. Distance: 14.5km (Moderate)

The day begins with a 30-minute transfer to Moonlight Head. The trail's first 4.5 kilometers wind gently through native stringybark forest, offering a serene contrast to the rugged coastline. The journey ascends to The Gables, one of mainland Australia’s highest cliff-top lookouts, where sweeping views await. Tide permitting, descend onto Wreck Beach to explore the historic shipwreck ruins before continuing to Devil’s Kitchen for lunch and visiting the Fiji shipwreck memorial. On wilder days, witness the dramatic, cauldron-like ocean that defines this part of the coast. After lunch, the trail follows the Devil’s Kitchen Track through lush fern gullies and over a ridge dotted with grass trees, ending at the Wreck Beach carpark. On the return journey, a short detour leads to Melba Gully, an enchanting rainforest sanctuary featuring towering Mountain Ash, Beech Myrtle, tree ferns, and cascading waterfalls. Back at the lodge, the final evening is celebrated with a rejuvenating foot spa, a delightful long-table dinner, and a glass of local wine—marking a perfect end to the adventure. A 45-minute drive leads to Princetown, where the adventure continues along a trail that rises and falls along the coastline, gradually unveiling the breathtaking Twelve Apostles. Walkers are treated to an exclusive viewing lookout before the trail’s final stretch into the Twelve Apostles Visitors Centre—a triumphant moment marking the journey’s end. Afterward, head to the nearby town of Timboon to visit Schulz Organic Dairy, the lodge’s trusted dairy supplier, for a delicious lunch.
