$2,640Journey through the Top End on this adventure in Northern Australia’s Litchfield and Kakadu National Parks. Cruise up the East Alligator River and learn about the landscape, plants and animals from an Aboriginal guide, look out for wetland birds at Mamukala Wetlands and see the UNESCO World Heritage-listed rock art created by the Bininj people at Burrungkuy (Nourlangie).
Is this trip right for you?
- Temperatures in Australia's Top End can be extreme, so you will need to be well-prepared with clothing for the weather. Depending on the time of the year, daytime can be very hot (and the Australian sun is very strong year-round), so always use sun protection and drink plenty of water. In the evenings, temperatures can drop, so bring sufficient warm clothing.
- On some days of the trip, you'll spend up to 5 hours driving through very remote areas of Australia.
- As sunrise and sunset times and weather conditions vary throughout the year, the order of activities may change to ensure you have the best experience possible. On occasion, the First Nations experiences may not be available, in which case we will include alternative activities.
- This trip is designed to make the most out of just a few days, which means there isn’t a lot of free time. If you would like to extend your trip, just speak to your Travel Specialist.
- Minimum age: 15 years old.
*This itinerary is valid for departures from 01 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Please consult your Travel Specialist for details on itinerary variations outside these dates.*

NZD $2,640Welcome to Northern Australia! Your adventure begins in Darwin (Gulumoerrgin in the language of the local Larrakia people, who are the Traditional Owners of the land on which Darwin is now located) with a welcome meeting at 6 pm. If you arrive early, take some time to explore at your own pace – maybe visit the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory or take a dip in the Darwin City Lagoon – a protected bay with a net that keeps crocodiles and other unwelcome creatures out. After the meeting, maybe find a local restaurant for dinner and get to know your fellow travellers, before an early start tomorrow morning.
It’s very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance and emergency contact details at this time. If you are going to be late, please let your travel agent or hotel reception know. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place.
