Perth

Perth sits on the west coast and is Australia’s sunniest capital city. Soak up the sunshine at one of the white sand beaches, take a walk in leafy Kings Park - one of the world’s largest inner-city parks, or visit nearby Rottnest Island to meet the resident quokkas. For a more cultural experience head to the museum and gallery precinct, or go a little further afield to Swan Valley to experience its vineyards, art, food and history.

Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island is situated 19 kilometers off the coast of Perth. Getting to the island is easy as ferries depart regularly from Perth’s Barrack Street Jetty, Fremantle, and Hillarys Boat Harbour - or you can get there by air with a seaplane, air taxi, or helicopter.
Rottnest Island offers visitors a casual atmosphere, picturesque scenery, and a rich cultural heritage to discover, find out why the local Noongar people called the island Wadjemup which means ‘place across the water where the spirits are’. 
Cycling is the best way to get around the island or there’s a hop-on/hop-off bus service that regularly runs around the island, stopping at some of the more secluded beaches and surf breaks.
With 63 of the prettiest beaches you’re likely to see anywhere, 20 beautiful bays, and many coral reefs and wrecks, Rottnest Island is a marine paradise. You can spend your days exploring some of the most spectacular swimming spots, diving, and surfing breaks in the world, and a must-do is exploring the snorkel trails, with over 135 species of tropical fish and 25 species of coral to discover.
There’s plenty to experience out of the water too, from meeting the world-famous Quokka to exploring the excellent bike and walking trails that traverse the island. You can also discover the island’s military history, as you explore underground tunnels, the lighthouse, Oliver Hill, and Bickley Battery. Kalgoorlie and Cook

Awake to see the sunrise unfold across Australia’s largest outback town, Kalgoorlie. This morning, delve into this mining town’s fascinating past and present, with a visit to the region’s gold-rush era, now modern-day, Super Pit mine. Decide how you want to explore Kalgoorlie with your choice of Off Train Experiences, including morning refreshments. Reboarding the train mid-morning for brunch, the remainder of the day is spent on board at your leisure. Sit back and enjoy the hospitality as you take in spectacular views of the seemingly endless expanse of the Nullarbor Plain. You’ll cross borders and time zones, entering South Australia before dinner. Late evening, the train will pull into the almost-ghost-town of Cook for a nightcap and late-night bonfire experience under the Nullarbor sky.

The Indian Pacific - Off Train Experiences in Kalgoorlie

Step off The Indian Pacific and tailor your journey with these exciting off-train adventures at Kalgoorlie:

The Super Pit: Begin your up-close tour of one of Australia’s largest gold-producing mines at the iconic Super Pit. First, stop at Hannans North Tourist Mine for light refreshments and a cuppa beside the resident Haul Truck, where you'll have the chance to take photos and enjoy a brief visitor induction. After donning a Hi-Vis vest, board the Mine-Spec Bus for a tour through the workshop and internal viewing platforms. The bus will travel along the mine’s tracks, passing the impressive CAT 793 Haul Trucks, as a knowledgeable driver shares the history of the Golden Mile and the operations of the Super Pit today. Following the tour, return to the Indian Pacific for a delicious mid-morning brunch as you continue your journey east.

Golden Treasures: Travel by coach to Hannans North Tourist Mine, where you’ll begin your day with morning refreshments as Jason shares captivating stories about the region’s rich history, including the black-and-white Kalgoorlie love story, "Ancient Heats." Explore over 30 fascinating exhibits, diving deep into the history of gold mining. Try your hand at panning for gold or join a lively game of Two-Up, a favorite pastime of goldrush miners. Get an up-close look at the massive super trucks that power the mine, feeling the sheer size and strength of these machines. The journey concludes at the Super Pit Lookout, where you’ll stand on the edge of one of the world’s richest gold deposits, producing 800,000 ounces of gold annually.

Curious Kalgoorlie: Delve into the quirky and unique stories of local characters with an interview-style commentary that brings to life the town’s colourful past. The adventure begins with a drive through town, where the sun gleams off the gold-plated courthouse dome on historic Hannan Street. After a brief stop at the Super Pit Lookout, continue through Boulder’s charming main street to the 1908 Boulder Town Hall, where you’ll marvel at the rare Goatcher Stage Curtain, a cultural treasure. Enjoy light refreshments as you soak in the venue’s historic atmosphere. The journey concludes with a visit to Chunky Timber Co., where the charismatic Chunky shares his story and offers his signature "Nullarbor Beads." The Ultimate Transcontinental Discovery - Day 5
Barossa Valley

Spend the morning travelling through the pastoral lands and communities of remote South Australia as the Indian Pacific cruises past the Flinders Rangers, Spencer Gulf and the Adelaide Plains. Breakfast and lunch are both served on board. Mid-afternoon, the train pulls into Two Wells, where you’ll disembark and transfer in comfortable coaches for a short ride to the world-renowned, wine producing region of the Barossa Valley. You’ll spend the evening at Seppeltsfield Winery, delighting in a signature dining experience in the vintage cellar. A traditional ‘Firing of the Barrel’ display is part of the evening,  as well as a food and wine pairing curated by Executive Chef Owen Andrews, highlighting regional produce and traditional methods  that reflect the story of the Barossa. Here, Platinum guests are  also treated to a special 100-year-old wine tasting experience. After dinner, you’ll return to the Indian Pacific, continuing your rail journey through the night.

The Indian Pacific - Off Train Experiences in Broken Hill

Step off The Indian Pacific and tailor your journey with these exciting off-train adventures at Broken Hill:

Silver City Highlights: Explore Broken Hill on this scenic outback tour. Visit the Living Desert State Park to see the famous Living Desert Sculptures, striking sandstone artworks set against a desert backdrop. Savor native teas and Wattleseed brew for a taste of local culture. Then, head to the Sulphide St Railway & Historical Museum for a guided tour on Broken Hill’s mining history and early railways. Arrive in Sydney

The Blue Mountains is known for its soaring sandstone ridges wrapped in native flora. This World Heritage-listed area marks your final stop before arriving in Sydney. Say goodbye to the Indian Pacific after breakfast, to travel deep into the mountains for this Off  Train Experience. Scenic World includes four phenomenal mountain experiences, from the Scenic Skyway, which takes you over ancient ravines, with 360-degree vistas to the Scenic Cableway that glides over the forest to the valley floor and the Scenic Railway, the steepest passenger railway in the world. Alternatively, stretch your legs on a guided walk with spectacular views from numerous lookouts along the trail. Both experiences end at Echo Point Lookout, perched on the edge of the escarpment in Katoomba, where a light lunch is served.
