Glenelg

Glenelg is a beachside suburb of Adelaide, set on the white sand beaches of Holdfast Bay and is acknowledged as the oldest European settlement on mainland South Australia, established in 1836. In the early days, Glenelg's port bought in South Australia's first settlers and quickly became a luxurious place for the rich to live. Prior to the 1836 British colonisation, Glenelg and the surrounding region were home to the Kaurna group of Aboriginal people. Discover local and cultural history exhibits in the Bay Discovery Centre in the old 1870s town hall building. Explore Glenelg beach and see why its turquoise shallows and white sands are so popular with visitors and locals alike, popular activities include swimming, snorkelling, diving, fishing, or even swimming with dolphins. There are many beachfront bars, restaurants, alfresco areas to spend an evening out, and numerous local and boutique shops to explore. At the shore front, sits The Beachouse, an exciting amusement centre for families, with waterslides, arcade games and bumper boats. The coastline offers many opportunities to watch seals, otters, dolphins, and even the occasional lucky sightings of basking sharks and minke whales.
